If you want to run 26 miles in the rain, please raise your hand

I have always been fascinated by marathon runners. The desire to slap feet to the pavement for hours on end pushing your body to extreme limits seems like a strange desire to me. I witnessed a marathon once. It was in Maui and several of my friends were running in it. A group of my roommates and I sat in the bleachers near the finish line and watched as people wilted across the finish line. The expression on their faces was a mixture of exhaustion, pain, and accomplishment. I am not afraid to admit that I got teary eyed. A certain lady was even proposed to on the finish line. Her would be suitor got on one knee and held open a small black box with a shiny diamond ring inside. He blocked the girl from crossing the finish line and she almost collapsed on him. I am sure she said yes once she recovered from her fatigue and shock.
We had some good friends from BYUH visit us this weekend, the Schmidt's, and Brad ran in the marathon. What's more- it rained. It never rains here, but that didn't stop the runners. I actually sat in the car with the two babies while everyone else went to try and catch a glimpse of the runners. It was so fun to visit with our friends. These are a few of the pictures from the weekend.
Ava, Cambria and Kiera riding in the rhino!

Kirra and Bubba - they were so cute. They always seemed to end up next to each other. They didn't really play together, but they were always near one another.
The girls after the marathon
Instant best friends. Ava rode in our car and entertained us by singing, Called to serve, several times.
At Applebee's - everyone had bad hair because of the rain! Except Bubba, his hair is always the same.

This should be a new post but oh, well. We had our first launch party to celebrate the opening of our vinyl comapany Lasting Impressions. I know most of you know about it or have been on my Say It Sweetly blog, but these little aprons are new to the line. My kids use them all the time when they help me cook or when the do art projects. I just love them so I started making them. I have a few different styles. Check out the sayitsweetly.blogspot.com for more info.

This is one of two display tables
This is two of tow:) Thankyou to everyone who came out and supported our grand opening!

American Dream

I am so sad today.
I have a friend named Mandy. She and her husband are from Switzerland. German is their native tongue. They have two beautiful children the youngest was born here in the US. Their oldest, Sabrina, is in Cambria's kindergarten class. They traveled the whole world but had a dream to come to America and make a life. Mandy was an accountant for a real estate company in Switzerland, her husband went to school to become a physical trainer, but here in Mesquite, he works construction. She joked about him being unable to make a living as a PT because Americans don't seem to be as into being physically fit as the people from her country. The economy is bad all around and many of my friends who have husbands in the construction business are worried about them losing their jobs. Mandy and her husband are worried about this too, so they have decided to go back to Switzerland. She said she cried and cried because she felt like she had failed on her dream. She said for a year she was praying and asking God to help them make things work, but recently she has been praying for peace in her heart. She said that she is trying to picture this return to Switzerland as a U-turn instead of a failure.

I wish there was something I could do to help. I wish I could offer her husband a job with benefits. I wish I could help her American dream become a reality. I hate the fact that there is nothing I can do to make it better. They plan to return to their home country in December or January. I will be very sad to say good-bye to this friend.

This is what I have been up to lately

We busted out the slip and slide for probably the last time this year. It was fun for the kids and their neighbor friends. I was making dinner and would occasionally glance out of the kitchen window to watch them slide through the water. Well, one of the times that I happened to look out of the window I suddenly saw my 12 month old son sliding across the yellow plastic at a super sonic speed. I gasped and ran out the door to find my husband smiling from ear to ear and my son as shocked as could be and frantically reaching for me. Yeah, you guessed it. Kai decided to throw Bubba down the slip and slide for fun. Though he slid quite well, I asked him to refrain from throwing my son across the slide again. Bubba decided to punish his father by eating him. Nothing like a nice cup of hot chocolate to warm a girl up after a long afternoon of slip and slide. If you look closely you can see that Cambria is trying to steal spoon fulls of hot chocolate from Kiera while she is distracted and smiling at the camera.

This is another yummy thing that I get to eat now that I am not nursing, home made pizza with red onion and red bell pepper . . . yummy!

I have also bee trying to entertain my children with art projects. This first one is made out of school glue and beans. They love to do crafts.
This next one is something that Cambria did at Kindergarten Open house. Kiera was sad that she didn't get to do one so we recreated the project at home. It was fun.
We are getting ready to have a launch party for our vinyl business. We haven't really come out officially yet. These are just a few new things I've come up wit. If you'd like to see more samples go to sayitsweetly.blogspot.com

Marriage is sacred

I love California. It is where I grew up and where my heart still thinks it belongs. I feel like we live in the day where the constitution truly hangs by a thread and sometimes I feel helpless. You may not be from California, you may not live there now, but maybe you can still help. If you know anyone who does live in California, please talk to them about this issue. What happens in one state can easily be adopted by another state.

On the California Ballot this November will be a proposition (#8 to be exact) asking to define marriage as such:

"Only Marriage between a man and a woman is valid and recognized in California."

Seems simple, but this is a very serious thing. I personally do not want my daughter being taught in her kindergarten class that the handsome prince can marry the other handsome prince and live happily ever after. Maybe that is a bit extreme, but I don't want her to be taught that homosexual marriage is just as acceptable and as common and as sacred as a marriage between a man and a woman.

The following Information is taken from www.protectmarriage.com

About Proposition 8

"Proposition 8 is simple and straightforward. It contains the same 14 words that were previously approved in 2000 by over 61% of California voters: “Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.” Because four activist judges in San Francisco wrongly overturned the people’s vote, we need to pass this measure as a constitutional amendment to restore the definition of marriage as between a man and a woman.

Voting YES on Proposition 8 does 3 simple things:

1.
It restores the definition of marriage to what the vast majority of California voters already approved and what Californians agree should be supported, not undermined.

2. It overturns the outrageous decision of four activist Supreme Court judges who ignored the will of the people.

3. It protects our children from being taught in public schools that “same-sex marriage” is the same as traditional marriage, and prevents other consequences to Californians who will be forced to not just be tolerant of gay lifestyles, but face mandatory compliance regardless of their personal beliefs.

The Consequences:
The Supreme Court’s decision to legalize same-sex marriage did not just overturn the will of California voters; it also redefined marriage for the rest of society, without ever asking the people themselves to accept this decision. This decision has far-reaching consequences. For example, because public schools are already required to teach the role of marriage in society as part of the curriculum, schools will now be required to teach students that gay marriage is the same as traditional marriage, starting with kindergartners. By saying that a marriage is between “any two persons” rather than between a man and a woman, the Court decision has opened the door to any kind of “marriage.” This undermines the value of marriage altogether at a time when we should be restoring marriage, not undermining it.

The Solution:
Vote YES on Proposition 8 to overturn the outrageous Supreme Court decision and restore the definition of marriage that was approved by over 61% of voters. Proposition 8 is NOT an attack on gay couples and does not take away the rights that same-sex couples already have under California’s domestic partner law. California law already grants domestic partners all the rights that a state can grant to a married couple. Gays have a right to their private lives, but not to change the definition of marriage for everyone else.Passing Proposition 8 protects our children and places into the Constitution the simple definition that a marriage is between a man and a woman."

FAQ: http://www.protectmarriage.com/files/faq.pdf

There has been some talk about LDS temples being unable to perform a marriage ceremony if enough people vote "NO" on Prop 8. It would be against the law for them to deny a homosexual couple to be married with in its sacred walls. SO it is said that the temples would only be allowed to seal couples after they were married somewhere else first. I have heard this is how some European LDS temples have to act, though I haven't done the research to support this comment. Maybe you can:) At any rate, it seems unfair that a redefinition of marriage should take away my right to freedom of religion to practice my belief in my own place of worship.

For more on the excerpt below see:
http://www.protectmarriage.com/files/JOINT_STATEMENT_PASTORS_AND_CHURCHES.pdf

"Religious organizations cannot currently be forced to perform same sex marriages HOWEVER if we do not vote yes on prop 8 a redefinition of marriage may open up doors to other threats and losses of existing protections such as:
- A religious leader or church may be sued for refusing to allow their facility to be used for a same sex marriage. A religious leader may also be sued for refusing to perform a marriage for a same sex couple."

This is a history changing proposition and the ramifications of such a decision must be heavily weighed. Please encourage any Californians you know to vote Yes on prop 8. Vote yes to protect the sanctity of marriage and family.

Another article found in the LA Times I thought was worth reading comes from a liberal democrat. See:

Quirks and Hello chocolate, oh, how I've missed you so!

I didn't mean to take a blogging break. I just have had lots to do!
This first part is for you Gloria. It took me a long time to think about my quirks and figure out which ones I am willing to share.

Here they are: 6 quirks that belong to AMY DAVIS

1. I sleep with at least three pillows. Don't know why I do this, but recently it has been quite beneficial since Cambria sneaks in to sleep with me at night. She kicks a lot and I have been able to create a pillow wall as a line of defense.

2. I am extremely scared of chickens. Again, I don't know why. It could be because I have eaten so many of them and I don't like to picture them as having a life before they are frozen breasts and tenders in my freezer. Or maybe it's because they still run around after their heads are cut off. It's just gross.

3. I have a strange fear of not having enough time with the ones I love. Like they will be taken from me at any moment. Every time I get ready to go into the hospital to have a baby, I leave farewell love notes to my hubby and kids in my journal - just in case. Every time one of my little ones goes in for a surgery I worry obsessively all night that I won't ever see them again. I know this is weird too. It's probably because my Dad died when I was young and didn't get enough time with him- hey I am psychoanalyzing myself right now!!!

4. I am a horrible speller. I think I used to be good until I took Spanish in high school. For some reason that really screwed me up. Or I might have always been horrible.

5. I always put the parking break on. I didn't realize that this was an unusual thing, but it drives Kai nuts. He can't understand why I put the parking break on when I park in our garage that is on level ground.

6. I often repeat myself when giving directions to my children. I blame this on teaching special education. Repetition was key with that group but is not always necessary for my kids. For example, "Kiera, take your shoes and put them in the shoe spot, then throw your trash away, okay, put your shoes in the shoe spot then throw your trash away." I didn't realize that I did this either until Kiera told me one day, " Mom, you told me that two times okay?!"

Alright: I am supposed to tag 6 but I only want to tag three: Leah Ferg, Heidi Ferg, and . . . hmmmmm Elizabeth Garner!! Write about 6 quirks and then tag three (or six if you don't want to cheat like I did) to do the same.

In other news, my life has been very exciting this week because I am no longer nursing and that means HELLO to all the beautiful foods that I have been missing for a WHOLE ENTIRE YEAR!! My children are born with very sensitive stomachs and often get bloody rashes when I am not careful about the food I eat. So I have learned to abstain from certain things. But that is no longer necessary and I can again enjoy the foods that I love. I had chocolate and brownies and strawberries and raspberries dipped in chocolate. I had pizza with garlic bread and spaghetti with the RED sauce, I made salsa from scratch and even made tortilla chips. I had baby bell peppers dipped in ranch dressing. I had lasagna and broccoli fettuccine and I am so happy! And no, this was not all consumed in the same day. I better stop my binging though because I am still trying to lose weight!! Ahh, but my taste buds have been so happy and my family had also been happy that our dinners have improved!

Primary Mini Trek

All I have to say is THANK the creator of the stars up Above that I was not a pioneer! I never would have made it. Our church had a little Pioneer Trek day for all of the primary age kids. They rode horses, pulled hand carts, made butter in baby food jars, and played pioneer games like the stick pull. It was a hot and sweaty day but the kids thought it was pretty fun!

I thought it was so cute how Cambria and Kiera were standing in line waiting for their turn to ride the horse!

one, ONE, oNe, One, Where did you come from?

On September 10, 2007, a son was born.

"Time is a sort of river of passing events, and strong is its current; no sooner is a thing brought to sight than it is swept by and another takes its place . . .
--Marcus Aurelius

I can't believe that a year ago I was lying in a hospital bed admiring my newly born son. This year has flown by so fast and yet Malachi still seems like such a baby to me. He is sweet. He dances with his head (like Stevie Wonder) when he hears music, he is walking like a champ. He claps for himself. He knows the sign language for more and all done. He likes balls. He likes to push things around the house. He loves being outside. He loves to pull hair. He has a small grin that shows lots of teeth. He is still bald. His "soft spot" pulses when he breaths. He loves his big sisters and wants to be where they are and do what they do. He loves to swim. He even started going under water (on purpose) all by himself to retrieve swim rings. He loves the remote control. I wish he could stay my baby forever.

This is the first birthday party we have ever had on our own. We usually, (I usually) plan big productions and lavish celebrations. This was different, but I actually liked it. Malachi had complete and total attention on him and when he was done and ready to move on to the next thing, we did. It was really nice to forgo crowd control.
Kiera and I worked really hard on this pirate cake. I think he turned out quite well. bettycrocker.com has so many cute ideas for cakes. I do have to say that the lady in the videos makes cake decorating much easier than it really is.
Bubba wasn't sure what to do with the cake I gave him. I had to put a few dabs of frosting in his mouth before he decided it was okay to eat. (the next few pictures are a little out of order!)

Yum. Yum. Yum! We actually did presents first and cake last, but again the pictures are out of order. Bubba loved the box and the card Gigi gave him. She also gave him a snow suite and another cute outfit, but he did appreciate those as much as I did.

Loved the balloons from Gram, Papa, Uncle Sean, Uncle Chris and Uncle Ryan. As I read the card Kiera said, "Did you know Uncle Caca used to be Uncle Chris?????" Balloons were delivered as we were opening Bubba's presents. Cambria saw the delivery van (the same one that brought her her first day of school congratulatory balloons) and she said "Its a celebration van!" Cambria ran outside to accept the goods, then signed for them (so cute!) and then said as she got in the house, "This is another great day!"
Birthday on a budget! I had been saving and hiding our baby toys for over a year. When Kai got home from work I told him and the girls that they had a task to perform. They were to go out to the "club house" (our out door guest room) pick out a present for Bubba, clean it and then take it to the laundry room and wrap it. It worked out just fine. The girl's though tit was so fun to go shopping in the "club house."

Cathy (Kai's mom) took the liberty of throwing a big party for Malachi a first birthday party in conjunction with my niece Kiana's second birthday. (Perhaps that is why I didn't plan a party of my own.) He got some toys that weren't purchased from the "club house" and some really cute outfits.

I am so glad that we have Malachi in our lives. When you are pregnant and planning sometimes you worry and wonder about how your new little one will fit into your life. Then when you hold them in your arms you wonder what you would have done without them.
Happy First Birthday Malachi! We love you SO much!

Why I am voting against Obama

I had to do a lot of research to come to this decision, because I really wasn't sure at first about who I would choose.

I have always felt a sense of patriotism for my country and feel I owe a great debt to the men and women who in the very early years of our country's conception were brave enough to take a stand against England and tyranny to create a more perfect union. While I do not have a photographic memory and cannot quote dates or places I do know that the war against England lasted for years and the 13 colonies lost MANY a battle.

On July 4Th when we declared ourselves independent of England, we hadn't even won the war yet. In fact we would still be years away from our victory. But inspired men and women knew that each man and woman had certain "unalienable rights" that should not be denied him. I also know that this was a part of Heavenly Father's plan. He wanted to create a nation in which His gospel could be restored to the earth. (Roughly 40% of the people living in the colonies were still loyal to the crown and did not want to break away.)

There were many times when politicians and congress petitioned to have General Washington removed from his capacity. They said he was not the man who would lead the colonies of the United States to victory. They said he was losing too many battles to make any progress. But time and time again when Washington and his troops were cornered facing certain capture and loss, by of the mercy of our Heavenly Father, Washington led hundreds and hundreds of his troops away from their enemy, right under their noses. Most of the troops went years with out pay, they rarely had adequate clothing for freezing winters or shoes to cover their feet. Often times they were hungry. Often men would want to quit the army and return to their homes, but time and time again Washington reminded them that they were fighting for something greater than themselves, they were fighting for freedom, for an ideal, for a life that was predetermined by each man, a course of his own choosing. Washington inspired them to stay, to see their cause through.

I believe that men and women today are fighting for the same reason. No one likes war. It is an awful and ugly thing. People die, innocents are killed, loved ones mourn losses. I think it was some high ranking official in the Japanese army who told one of his subordinates right before they bombed Pearl Harbor, " A wise man would find away to avoid war." This is true. But thankfully, Washington and his army did not stop fighting a war that they were constantly seeming to lose. Thankfully he had insight and knew that what he and many others were trying to build was worth fighting for and worth working for.

Our war today is awful. I have many friends and family members who have served or are serving in the military during this war. One of my best friends in high school was in Iraq for almost a year. It is a hardship. Something I wish they didn't have to do, but something I am so proud of them for and eternally grateful. "To whom much is given much is required." We Americans have been given a lot. Kai will attest to that after living in a country (Panama) that is close to if not third world. Panamanians will tell you of their gratitude for the Americans in ousting General Noriega who was certain to take a whole country down. I think it is important to take care of other country's around us when their is something they can't do for themselves. We cannot ignore the rest of the world and think that nothing will ever effect us. We (The United States) used help from the French in the Revolutionary War by signing the Treaty of Alliance in 1778 which then became a turning point in the war in our favor. We are all interconnected and when their is injustice, if we can help we should. For those who haven't traveled to any developing countries, I'll tell you there is a lot we can and should do. Sometimes it takes years, lives, hardships and money. Always it takes our prayers that leaders will be guided when they are making their decisions. We are not like Rome who sought to gain more power, nor Germany who felt they were of a superior race. We are part of a country that lives and has a standard of life much higher than anywhere else. Are we above helping those who cannot help themselves in these poor countries?

Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I believe in living latter day prophets and continuing revelation. What they speak in inspired and comes from God. Just as the prophecies of the bible prophets were fulfilled, so will the prophecies of our latter-day Prophets.

I think this document is important when considering whom to vote for:

The Family: A Proclamation to the World
We, the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator's plan for the eternal destiny of His children. All human beings—male and female—are created in the image of God. Each is a beloved spirit son or daughter of heavenly parents, and, as such, each has a divine nature and destiny.

Gender is an essential characteristic of individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose. In the premortal realm, spirit sons and daughters knew and worshiped God as their Eternal Father and accepted His plan by which His children could obtain a physical body and gain earthly experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize his or her divine destiny as an heir of eternal life.

The divine plan of happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave. Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally. The first commandment that God gave to Adam and Eve pertained to their potential for parenthood as husband and wife. We declare that God's commandment for His children to multiply and replenish the earth remains in force. We further declare that God has commanded that the sacred powers of procreation are to be employed only between man and woman, lawfully wedded as husband and wife.We declare the means by which mortal life is created to be divinely appointed. We affirm the sanctity of life and of its importance in God's eternal plan.

Husband and wife have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children. "Children are an heritage of the Lord" (Psalms 127:3). Parents have a sacred duty to rear their children in love and righteousness, to provide for their physical and spiritual needs, to teach them to love and serve one another, to observe the commandments of God and to be law-abiding citizens wherever they live. Husbands and wives—mothers and fathers—will be held accountable before God for the discharge of these obligations.

The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity. Happiness in family life is most likely to be achieved when founded upon the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities.

By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children. In these sacred responsibilities, fathers and mothers are obligated to help one another as equal partners. Disability, death, or other circumstances may necessitate individual adaptation.

Extended families should lend support when needed. We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. Further, we warn that the disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets. We call upon responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society.

This proclamation was read by President Gordon B. Hinckley as part of his message at the General Relief Society Meeting held September 23, 1995, in Salt Lake City, Utah

Three Reasons why Obama will not have my vote

1.Barack Obama believes in abortion. When he was in California at Saddleback church, in his debate hosted/interviewed by Reverend Rick Warren, Obama joked that defining at which time a fetus had civil rights was above his pay grade. He says he supports Roe Vs. Wade because he believes that women agonize over the choice to have an abortion. I am sure they do agonize, but as far as I am concerned, maybe they should have agonized a little more before they engaged in the act of procreation. They had a choice to make then, and pregnancy was a consequence of that poor decision. He says that he wants to promote adoption and work to reduce the number of abortions by making sure women have proper health care, proper support services rendered, and appropriate adoption options. So I asked myself, I wonder what the stats are on abortions? Because I personally know two people who between them had three abortions, simply because they didn't want to be pregnant. So I looked for the stats. If you get a minute you should go to the web site because some of the (detailed) reasons sited for an abortion will truly turn your head.
http://www.johnstonsarchive.net/policy/abortion/abreasons.html

REASONS FOR ABORTIONS: COMPILED ESTIMATES
rape: 0.3 % (0.1-0.6 %)
incest: 0.03 % (<0.1 %)
physical life of mother: 0.2 % (0.1-0.3 %)
physical health of mother : 1.0 % (0.1-3 %)
fetal health: 0.5 % (0.1-1.0 %)
personal choice: defined in the survey as the following:
(--too young/immature/not ready for responsibility--economic--to avoid adjusting life--mother single or in poor relationship--enough children already)
98% (78-99 %)--(32 %)--25% (21-28 %)--(16 %)--(12-13 %)--(4-8 %)
98% of abortions are due to personal choice, not access to healthcare or inadequate information on adoption.

2. Obama says (also from his Saddleback debate):
"Evil does exist . . .It has to be confronted squarely. And one of the things that I strongly believe . . . we are not going to do as individuals [is] be able to erase evil from the world. That is God's task. But we can be soldiers in that process, and we can confront it when we see it."
I think that is what we are doing right now in our war efforts."

I do not want a commander in chief who is without military experience. I want someone who understands what being in a battle (living on military food, in military housing, digging a hole to sleep in trying to make sure that it was deep enough for a blast to leave you undisturbed- this is what my friend told us he did) means not only to us as Americans but to the soldiers whom he would deploy. I want a president who understands how a military operates. Someone who who is more like General Washington than General Gates in the revolutionary war.

3. Obama's views are way to socialistic (is that a word) for me to want to get on board with him. I don't want the government to dictate how to do EVERYTHING. But how about being Self Reliant. I feel like Obama is pretty sure that we have failed as a society and feels like we need to give him control of everything (health care- which I know isn't perfect now I know, but turning over to be controlled by a federal bureaucracy -yikes, and more taxes and more taxes) so that he can distribute things as he seems fit and fix all of our problems. That's how I treat my three year old. **And to say that for some people they just can't make it unless the government comes to their rescue??? Education is the solution to poverty. Stay in school, get good grades, and get a scholoarship to go to college. Oh, and stay away from drugs! I have seen people go from very poor to the middle class and even higher. Our economy is in shambles because of people who didn't follow some simple rules given by wise men time and time again (the prophets and simple financial planners). They have taught us to avoid all debt except that of a house and education. Yet we have millions of people who file bankruptcy and max out credit cards they can't pay back. "Live within your means" The housing market is our biggest economical problem and that wasn't any politicians fault. IF you're not smart enough to contact and do some research before buying a home (a humongous investment for most of us) then that's your fault. For that reason I went to my brother who was a loan officer I knew wouldn't scam me. ** (Kai's comments **)

Break down:
1. Pro-choice
2. No military Experience
3. Identifies to closely with socialism

These are just my top three reasons why I can't vote for Obama. I encourage you to look at the issues to make an educated vote. I think McCain is a good man, who wants to make America better, I don't agree with him on every aspect and there are some views of his that I plain old just don't like. Having said that, he identifies more closely with my morals. Both of them are for civil unions and I don't like that. Obama, is also a man who cares deeply for our country and wants to make a difference. (I really like his wife) I know America needs a change. I just don't think we are ready for Obama's kind of changes. Besides that, I just can't support his moral views.

When you eat your words, do you salt and pepper them first?

Cambria is staying in Kindergarten all day. Yeah, I know I said I was morally against all day Kindergarten. My daughter has a different belief system than I do. She would fuss and cry every time I cam to pick her up. I had to force her to get in the car. Little Miss Social loves school. Her teacher is wonderful. I am still morally against all day kindergarten. Cambria is not. Big sigh.

In other news:
Although Mesquite was founded by Mormons, the must have never heard the following song:
The foolish man built his house upon the sand,
The foolish man built this house upon the sand,
The foolish man built his house upon the sand,
and the rains came a tumblin' down,
the rains came down and the floods came up,
the rains came down and the floods came up,
the rains came down and the floods came up,
and the house on the sand washed away.

I mean, doesn't the song repeat itself enough to give an accurate picture to someone of what will happen if you build your house upon the sand? I know it doesn't rain very often, but when it rains, it pours.

Mesquite was built on the sand, in the sand, and around the sand. Sand, sand, sand. If you ask me, there is no point in having sand unless you have an ocean nearby. The pictures were taken at our neighborhood park down the street from our house. This is what used to be the bike path. Some people in our ward live just on the other side of this ditch and they almost lost their backyard. The land slide stopped about 2 feet before their backyard fence. Luck for them.

The girls and I were at the Eureka movie theater watching the beginning of Kung Fu Panda when the storm knocked the power out. They had us evacuate and it was a good thing we left when we did because the streets were flooding big time. They had closed the freeways because there was just too much water to make it off the off ramp. Police were directing traffic and shutting down lanes. We could only drive through the very middle of the street because that is where the water was the most shallow. I had to drive through some very deep sections and I was pretty nervous. But we made it just fine and the kids thought it was a great adventure. I just hope that I am never on the roads again when we have a storm like that.

We are going to try to see the movie again tomorrow.

You really shouldn't say things like that to strangers

This is the conversation I had with a total stranger while I was dropping Cambria off for school today:

me: ohhh, when are you due?

stranger: The doctor is going to induce me no later than the 15Th because of all the problems I've had with diabetes and blood pressure . . .

me: Really, who is your doctor?

stranger: Dr. Ofari.

me: oh, I really like him. He delivered my youngest two.

stranger: Yes, I like him too.

me: I see your daughter is in my daughter's class. Do you have any other children?

stranger: Yes, I have a 12 year old, then my 5 year old and this one.

me: Wow, that is some pretty good spacing between them all (I was then going to ask if that made it all easier or harder- but she cut me off)

stranger: Yeah, believe me they weren't all planned that way. I could never get pregnant because my boyfriend was always too drunk. Then he went to jail for two weeks and when he got home, I got pregnant.

me: Oh, that's funny how things work out.

Stranger: (smiling) yeah.

me: Well, I hope things all work out well for you.

stranger: Thank you.

If you want a good laugh, then you gotta see this

This was on one of my friend's blogs and I thought I would pass it along. You have to read the one one about how to find your own JJWT. It will be back logged. You gotta read it.

Part 2 of the rest of your life!

I picked Cambria up at 1:15. She had a great time and loved every minute of her new "adult" life. We got a knock on the door at 2:50. It was a woman holding balloons and a small basket of flowers. She looked at my eldest daughter and asked, "Are you Cambria?" She shyly nodded her head in the affirmative. The lady told her that she heard it was her first day of school and hoped she had a wonderful time. She handed Cambria the basket of flowers and the balloons and then returned to her work van.

This is what Cambria said when we closed the door:
Mom, this is a congratulations for me! Oh, this is a lucky day! We should send them something special!

Thank you Grammy and Papa for sending a special gift to make this day even more special!
