I have neglected my poor little family blog long enough . . .actually it seems I have taken a general hiatus from the whole technology world since December. But Kai and I were lucky enough to wisk away on a nine day trip to our beloved Hawaii. We were so lucky to go there and visit our good friends the Ah Loy's. We just love them to bits!
Flying into the Honolulu Airport still feel like coming home. My in-laws babysat our four kiddos and dog and everyone is still alive and mostly unscathed. My favorite comment upon our return came from Cambria: "I never realized how much I would miss your cooking!"
I don't have that many pictures because most of the time I left my camera behind because I was afraid it would get stolen if I left it on the beach. I also killed my 50mm lens on this trip which is a huge tragedy:( Note to self: packing your camera around, unprotected in your purse in an attempt to disguise it and discourage someone from stealing it will break your camera lens.

This is the view from our window flying over the island chain on our first stop, the Big Island: Incidentally, we flew on Allegiant Airlines and we can't say enough bad things about it. It was a nightmare flight!
Kai and Miexia are two peas in a pod. They just love each other. I tried to give them as much alone time as possible:) On the way home from the airport, Miexia took us paddle boarding for our very first time! Well, Kai anyway, my knee still isn"t sea worthy.

Miexia and Netty told us that we could not miss out on the Farmer's Market: Miexia said there is one family that grew so many tomatoes that they were able to quit their day time jobs and simply sell tomatoes.

If there is one thing I forgot about Hawaii, it is how fast the clouds move. They are never stagnant. They literally breeze by at e miles an hour;) I wish I had video . . .This is the view from the farmer's market:

Waiamea is super windy and cold . . .did I say it was cold yet? I was expecting warm and tropical and I only brought one pair of jeans . . . i wore them everyday . . .

This is where we stayed . . . in the Ah Loy Cottage. It was super cute inside and I can't believe I didn"t take pictures!
The picture of me above: I am standing on top of the steepest driveway I have ever encountered. I was actually scared to drive up it and even more scared to drive down. What you can't see is the hair pin turn to the left of me . . .so, so, so, so, so steep. Kai even said he was surprised the car could make it. When I was little, I think I had bad dreams about this driveway . . .

This sign was the source of a lot of laughter. When we first passed it I told Kai what it said and he didn"t believe me. We had to drive back to it so he could see it for himself. We could have kept driving though, because this was not the only sign. I guess we are used to speed bumps, not speed humps:)
The last time we were in Hawaii we had to evacuate due to the Tsunami. So this sign caught our attention.
The birds in Hawaii don't often fly. I am serious. This little guy and his friends would rather walk across a busy intersection than fly.

Then we got to out home island . . . Oahu. And the first stop we had to make was to Big Kahuna's. Kai loves this place. It has moved locations since we first discovered it. It is no longer a-hole-in-the-wall eatery.
This is the first time I was able to visit Kai's grandpa's grave. I was surprised to find myself overcome with emotion. He died when Cambria was one month old, so 9 years ago, but seeing his headstone for the first time, really touched me. He was a wonderful man and helped Kai and I so much. When Kai was on his mission he came and took me out for ice cream every other Tuesday. He was buried by his "Sugarbabe", who sadly dies the summer before I met Kai. I have only heard lovely things about her.
BYU-Hawaii. I have heard people say "I go to the real BYU" Referring to Provo and I can't help but think, "what a dumb thing to say . . ." Don't say that Provo people, it makes you look bad. Now you know.
They are doing all sorts of construction on campus; building new dorms and new buildings, it is pretty intense.
This is the first place that Kai and I lived in TVA. K230. The second door in on the second story. We went and visited our old apt. and gave the current residence a gift certificate to Foodland. What college student wouldn't love that? We visited them for a little bit and we actually had a lot in common. It was funny.
We went surfing in Waikiki . . .
The Tabernacle . . . Don't remember if this is Waikiki or Honolulu, they all kind of run together.
